Art is a reflection of an artist's authenticity. It is the outward manifestation in movement and form of the inward journey necessary to discover one's truth. An artist must have the stillness of mind and subtleness of body to navigate the gossamer strands of thought and emotion enmeshed within. The artist in this regard is a cartographer of the self, and their art, an evolving map of self-discovery. Each new piece, a landmark on their adventure, and a signpost for others to follow.
Tareq Mirza has been creating from a very early age. His love of lego inspired his creativity, imagination and understanding of form and structure. Lego was eventually replaced by illustration and painting in his formative years. His exposure to computer graphics and animation in college opened his eyes to the possibilities of the digital medium. He received his BFA from George Mason University in studio art and computer graphics and went on to work in the visual effects industry.
After several years in Los Angeles working on television visual effects and animation, Tareq relocated to the San Francisco bay area to work at Industrial Light & Magic on Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. His other credits include Matrix Reloaded, Matrix Revolutions, Pirates of the Caribbean and Van Helsing. He has also taught and worked for Lucasfilm Animation and Electronic Arts.
Tareq is currently exploring the convergence of 3D Printing technology with traditional sculpture and metalwork. As Organic Modeling & 3D Printing Lead at the Academy of Art University, Tareq oversees the organic modeling and 3D printing tracks in the Animation Department.
